Vape sensors are essential for creating a safer, healthier, legally compliant environment in schools, businesses, and public spaces. They help to detect and deter vaping activity, which is crucial for preventing underage vaping and maintaining a vape-free environment in workplaces and public areas where vaping may pose issues.
Vape sensors are instrumental in combating underage vaping in schools. They detect vaping incidents, enabling staff to address the issue promptly and provide evidence and data that can be presented to key stakeholders (e.g.,parents) when discussing vaping incidents involving students. The mere presence of vape sensors is also a strong deterrent, discouraging students
from attempting to vape on school premises.
Volan stands out with its versatile power options, unmatched accuracy using 12 air particle size and concentration measures, and advanced machine learning algorithms for intelligent detection.
Unlike other threshold-based systems, Volan precisely identifies vaping patterns to avoid false positives. Lastly, it’s proudly designed and manufactured in the UK.
Volan’s sensors continuously monitor the environment, sending 12 distinct data points on particle size and concentration to our advanced infrastructure. Our sophisticated algorithms then analyse this data to accurately determine if vaping is taking place. When vaping is detected, the
system instantly alerts designated recipients via SMS or email.
When a Volan vape sensor detects vaping activity, it immediately sends alerts to designated personnel through SMS. You can customise who receives these notifications during setup, ensuring that the right people are informed promptly. The alerts provide critical information about the location and time of the vaping incident, enabling swift action. Please refer to our comprehensive instructional manual for a more detailed explanation of setting up and managing
notifications.
Volan is designed to minimise false alarms, ensuring you can trust its vape detection’s accuracy. Our advanced sensors measure 12 distinct data points on air particle size and concentration, providing a comprehensive overview of the environment. By analysing this data using sophisticated machine learning algorithms, Volan can effectively distinguish between vaping and other activities, such as smoking or spraying aerosols.
All Volan sensors come with a standard 3-year warranty covering any manufacturing defects.
Volan’s commitment to local manufacturing in the UK ensures strict quality control, faster delivery times, and reduced environmental impact from transportation while supporting the local economy. Additionally, being based in the UK ensures our detection devices comply with UK regulations and standards and allows us to provide more responsive customer support.
Setting up your Volan sensor is straightforward. Depending on the power option you prefer, you will either have a standard DC plug and lead or an AC-powered version that requires professional installation by a qualified electrician.
Once powered on, connect the sensor to Wi-Fi and assign the sensor a name for future reference.
Once set up, you can easily manage your sensors and notifications through the Volan app or web dashboard.
The number of vape sensors required depends on the size and layout of the area you want to monitor.
Each vape detector covers approximately a 6′ x 6′ area.

Vape sensors are most commonly installed in areas where vaping is likely to occur, and traditional monitoring methods like CCTV may not be suitable or practical. Some of the most popular locations include:
1. Toilets and bathrooms
2. Changing rooms
3. Stairwells and isolated corridors
4. Storage rooms/utility cupboards
5. Lifts
By strategically placing vape sensors in these hotspots, you can effectively detect and deter vaping activity, ensuring a safer and healthier environment for everyone. Our team can provide guidance on the optimal placement of sensors based on your specific layout and requirements.
When your Volan dashboard displays ‘detection paused’ for a sensor, it means that the scheduled monitoring time for that sensor is currently inactive. To optimise data usage and bandwidth, it is recommended to set the active monitoring hours to align with your organisation’s operational hours. By default, Volan sensors are configured to operate from Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. If you need to adjust the monitoring schedule to better suit your specific requirements, you can easily do so through the Volan dashboard.
The Volan subscription covers the ongoing costs of maintaining our servers and algorithm infrastructures. These systems are essential for running the sensors, processing the data they collect, and sending out alerts when vaping is detected. For a more detailed breakdown of costs, please visit the product page.
Volan sensors using a DC power lead (and any additional dummy sensors) can be easily repositioned as needed. We recommend reviewing our instruction manual for proper placement and installation guidance to ensure optimal performance and coverage.
Volan vape sensors are designed to be discreet. They are not much larger than a typical smoke detector, allowing seamless integration into your facility’s decor.
The Volan vape detection system is designed to be user-friendly and intuitive, requiring minimal training for effective use. Our comprehensive instruction manual and online resources cover all aspects of installation, setup, and operation. However, we also offer personalised support to help your team get the most out of the Volan system.
